As an 8 year old boy Carl Spiers witnessed his first football violence at Stockport in 1969. It was a seminal moment in his life and sparked an obsession with violence. For the next 15 years he progressed from onlooker to teenage boot boy to gang leader and eventually became one of Oldham’s top lads in the late 70’s/early 1980’s.
This roller-coaster ride took him up and down the country clashing with over sixty rival teams from all four divisions. Along the way Carl suffered many injuries including being stabbed in the chest and inner thigh, having his nose, cheekbones, arm, wrists, fingers and skull broken and his teeth knocked out.
He eventually saw the futility of all this mindless violence and by his early twenties he settled down. Nevertheless his experiences stood him in good stead as he went on to become widely recognised as an expert on football hooliganims and wider British youth culture.

I've read a lot of football hooligan books and think this was one of the best. I found it hard to put down to be honest and was sad when it came to an end. He was truthful about what happened at the fights at the games. Lots of colourful charachters in the book. I didn't realise Oldham was such a rough place. I think he captured the styles of the era really well. It brought back memories of the seventies, the music, clothes etc.. although I wasn't a football hooligan. I couldn't fight sleep ! This book is right up there with the 2 Sharpe As A Blade books, Blazing Squad, and Scally for honesty. A great read !Product details

Know one of the people mentioned personally, and Chris i've heard of, it's a really good read, reccommended for anyone who liked Booted and Suited or Want some Aggro?
I've read a lot of football hooligan books and think this was one of the best. I found it hard to put down to be honest and was sad when it came to an end.
